NBA 2K22 makes some welcome changes to its on-court action. The new stamina system is a game-changer, leading to the series' best offensive flow in years. Defensively, the tweaks to blocks and shot contests make the paint a dangerous place to be. However, the technical issues and questionable choices and overuse of microtransactions in several of the modes keep it from being a real contender. There's a high-quality basketball sim here, but it makes more unforced errors than you'd expect for a series that's been iterating for so long.

MultiVersus is a raucous and fun competitive platform fighter that rewards players for learning the strengths and weaknesses of its eclectic cast of characters. Its focus on online 2v2 means it lacks the pick-up-and-play nature of a game like Super Smash Bros., but it also does a nice job of setting it apart from other games in the genre. MultiVersus may need time to grow its currently limited selection of stages and characters to meet its bright potential, but its foundations are already rock solid.

Count Dracula gets revamped in his latest small screen adaptation from Sherlock and Dr. Who writers Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat. Claes Bang as Transylvania's most famous vampire brings fresh blood to an old and often told story, and Dolly Wells takes a brand new stab at his arch nemesis Van Helsing, but does it all add up? The new take definitely takes a minute to get used to, but ultimately this miniseries from the BBC on Netflix is an exciting new chapter in Dracula's history.

Windjammers 2 is a worthy sequel to a retro classic that manages to improve upon the highly competitive arena with new characters, levels, and abilities that make this fighting game version of Pong incredibly addictive. It lacks some key features like a spectator mode or any kind of tutorial to walk new players through all the complexities of combat and makes a limp attempt at telling a story about its characters, but it's so much fun to play that it's easy to forgive those whiffs.

After taking a year off in 2018, Call of Duty's single-player campaign has come roaring back in the revival of the Modern Warfare name. For my money, this is the best campaign the series has seen since 2010's Black Ops; and if that sounds like a backhanded compliment, I don't mean it as one. Though it stops short of being as provocative and button-pushing as it seemed poised to be, it is nevertheless an extremely well-designed first-person shooter that refreshes the format just enough with a few cool new ideas and some smart new takes on others we haven't seen in years.

The Sandman is everything longtime fans could have dreamed of in an adaptation. Tom Sturridge is utterly ethereal as Dream, and his co-stars seem to keep pace with him with ease. Meanwhile, stunning, sweeping images from The Dreaming to Hell itself keep us immersed in the fantasy. It’s as faithful of an adaptation as it could be, and, outside of the fact that it may go over a few new viewers’ heads, it’s just about perfect.

Baz Luhrmann's Elvis is a dizzying and at times even overwhelming chronicle of the rock icon. Austin Butler is stellar as Elvis, giving it his absolute all in every scene. Tom Hanks cleverly plays against type as the manipulative and greedy Colonel Parker. While the supporting cast isn't given as many dimensions as they could have been in say, a TV miniseries, Luhrmann tells Presley's story on a grand scale suited only for the big screen, delivering an epic yet intimate maelstrom of emotions, music, ideas, and eye candy. The film's breathless pacing may befit the fevered lifestyle of a rock star, but it can also rush through necessary moments of dramatic reflection. Baz Luhrmann's Elvis is a wild ride clearly made with a big hunk o' love for its subject, and that zeal for capturing Presley's humanity, both by its director and its star, outweighs the film's excesses and shortcomings in the end. Elvis made its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. It opens in theaters on June 24, 2022.

World War Z: Aftermath reviewed by Travis Northup on PC and Xbox Series X. Also available on Xbox One and PlayStation.

Aftermath evolves World War Z in some major ways that brought a smile to my face. Kamchatka is a stellar new episode and the improved melee options and first-person mode are great quality-of-life improvements, but there are still issues with online play, barely any attempt at storytelling, and bizarre design choices (such as a lack of aiming down sights in first-person mode) that are huge disappointments. Even so, blasting my way through countless zombies still has lasting charm, and Aftermath makes World War Z better than it has ever been.
