Juan ist der neue Schließer im Hochsicherheitsgefängnis, und heute ist sein erster Arbeitstag. Da bricht aus scheinbar heiterem Himmel eine Revolte aus, und Juan findet sich plötzlich hinter den feindlichen Linien wieder. Er gibt sich als Insasse der Zelle 211 aus und gewinnt bald das Vertrauen des Rudelsführers. Doch eine falsche Entscheidung und Juan’s Tarnung könnte auffliegen. Unterdessen macht sich Juans schwangere Frau Sorgen und fährt zur Anstalt.

Juan Oliver (Alberto Ammann) tritt seinen neuen Job als Gefängniswärter einen Tag früher als geplant an, um einen guten Eindruck zu machen. Beim Rundgang durch das Gefängnis bekommt Juan bei einem Unfall einen Schlag auf den Kopf und wird bewusstlos. Als er in Zelle 211 wieder zu sich kommt, muss Juan feststellen, dass im Hochsicherheitstrakt ein Aufstand ausgebrochen ist und er auf sich allein gestellt ist. Um zu überleben muss er sich als Gefangener ausgeben. Juan lässt sich mit dem Hauptanführer des Aufstands, Malamadre (Luis Tosar), ein.
